1. What is the MASSGrant and how
do I apply for it?
MASSGrant stands for Massachusetts Assistance for Student Success Grant. In order to qualify for the MASSGrant, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), through which you automatically apply for state financial aid. Because funding is limited, the application should be completed no later than May 1 of the year the student plans to attend school. For example, if you plan to attend college beginning in either September or January, the FAFSA must be received by the Commonwealth prior to May 1. 3. Can I get a MASSGrant if I am attending college
part-time?
Yes. Part-time students who are enrolled for at least six credits and meet general guidelines for qualification to receive a MASSGrant are also eligible. It is advisable to contact either your school's financial aid office or the Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance if you feel that you qualify for a part-time MASSGrant and have not received notification of the award. 4. If I get a MASSGrant rejection letter, does it
mean I don't get any financial aid?
No. If you get a MASSGrant rejection letter, you are only being rejected for aid offered by the Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance. Any additional assistance (federal, institutional, private) may still be intact. It is advisable to call your college's financial aid office to see what sources of aid are included in your financial aid award package. 5. How should I respond to a MASSGrant rejection letter?
The MASSGrant rejection letter is normally sent when there is information submitted on the FAFSA that does not comply with the guidelines for receiving the MASSGrant. The reasons for the denial are listed in ALL-CAPS in the body of the letter. If you believe the reason for denial is incorrect, complete the Reply Form included with the denial. Some of the information submitted may be corrected and your application may be reconsidered. The items that can be corrected by the student/parent using the Reply Form are the items that are listed on the Reply Form. The return address is listed at the bottom of the Reply Form. | |||
